Ithreth

Ithreth

papers for the newcomer

Tell it to someone, or the world puts it down. (told)

Left in a basket at the door of the Common Table, in Haltmere, for anyone who comes to the city without knowing what everybody here was told as a child. (witnessed)

None of these papers is the whole of anything. Nobody in Ithreth has the whole of anything, and the ones who say they do are selling it at the Tally. (guessed)

Each paper says how its writer knows what it says, in the small mark beside each line: seen, told, held on record, or guessed. The primer, first in the bundle, teaches the marks in one page. (witnessed)

There should be eleven papers. Count them. If one is gone, somebody needed it more than you did, and you are welcome to ask the room. (witnessed)
